For “Set Gold” to work, purchase or sell anything, use Set Gold with the amount of your choice, and then purchase or sell anything again.

I am quite unsure if something is wrong with the connection to the game or if I need to have the exact value of the gold i want on my person, but the instructions are a bit confusing to me.
I’ve purchased/sold then put in the amount I wanted then purchased/sold again. Only for it not to give me anything so I’m at a loss I tried the workaround I had to use disney dreamlight valley by setting gold and opening the menu and buying again.
But it seems like I may be doing something completely different that what is to be done. Any help?
