I currently got a 4GB GTX 960. It does me good for now but when playing games on ultra settings I noticed it almost uses up its memory by at least 85%. In an ideal world, I would love to get a 980ti but I couldn’t afford it at the moment. Instead I was wondering if an AMD 390 8GB will be better for me at the moment. What are your thoughts?
The stats are better tho :3 http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-390-vs-GeForce-GTX-960
Don’t buy one right now. Pascal is due out in the next 2-3 months and is suppose to have a huge performance gain over current GPUs.
Pascal?
Newest GPU architecture from Nvidia.
If the 980ti cost over £400 in my currency, I would hate to think what the 1080 would cost!
It is really hard to believe you are finding new ones that cheap. That is cheaper than the US and you guys have a huge import tax and VAT. The 980 maybe but not the ti. Also nvidia pricing is to quit producing the last model and replace it as the same price point with the new one. So if the 980ti is $650 then the new one will be $650.
That figure was the cheapest I have seen one go for pre-owned. New are much more. The company I got my PC from would sell me one brand new for £525+ but it’s only by Zotac. I want one from MSi or EVGA
I appreciate there are much more expensive components you can buy for that money but to think I can buy a car or have half my rent for a month using that £500…
Zotac is a good company but that is your choice. I always go with EVGA but at this point I would honestly just wait. I think they are saying it is like 10x more powerful or something like that.
Wouldn’t a GPU that powerful require to upgrade the cooling and motherboard? And power supply? (I got 550w)
No not really. Power supply maybe but the other two no.
Why would you upgrade the cooling? The GPU rarely overheats as they currently are, you don’t need to swap mobos as there is no connector change, and PSU wise the current 980 Ti only uses 250 watts so that depends on your peripherals and CPU.
Forgive me if I seem naive. I have only recently just got into PC gaming and I just assumed that a better GPU may require a more sufficient cooling supply and I also assumed the it may not fit into my current motherboard.
