Even though you’ve made notice of already getting the checkpoint for your friend, I’d still like to point out an awesome subreddit that always seems to be sharing checkpoints like so; r/Fireteam. Obviously it depends on which console your playing on and when you’re trying to grab the checkpoint, but people are always posting on that site sharing the key checkpoints with others.

Since you said your friend is new to the game I highly recommend staying away from DestinyLFG. I was one who once shared that site with others and told them how awesome it was, but ever since I upgraded to the X1 and ventured away from the Xbox 360 version of the game I never want to use that site again! (Linked up with too many idiots that were just wanting to get carried rather than help.)
Yeah bro, I have been reading a few posts on reddit about how **** the lfg sites are and a few saying they have gotten really good groups from /r/fireteams. I will use reddit rather than a lfg website. Cheers for the info 
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve met/befriend a few cool people from the site that I still play with to this very day and would still recommend someone using that site if they need one or two more players, just be cautious of who you invite because, like I said, there are those who want to be carried through everything, figure they are the only player in the world that has the event completed prior to being invited and so it’s his way or the highway, know everything about the game even though they’re incorrect, etc.
