Okay so I rent a room for 300 dollars every month. Everything is fine until the managers daughter moves in. Since then an unknown person is been putting sh-t on my door, last one was tp. So Im going to hang up a sign saying door handle is now electrical, do not touch unless I say so. Is this legal or no? If not legal, what can I do. I know exactly who it is and why they are doing it, but want nothing to do with it. Any idea I could do to the door. Or could I just put a sign up saying “anything other than mail found on this door the culprit will have a gun in their face”.
It’s set up like a college, you pay for the room, you get to use the kitchen and bathrooms that are shared by other tenants.
You could post a paper stating you setup a reverse peep hole motion camera to take pictures of the idiots who’ve been putting crap on your door.
Or legitimately setup a camera hidden somewhere in the shared part of your dorm and get pictures of them in the act, print hundred(s) copies and tape or glue them on your/their door every morning when you get up for coffee, plaster that ■■■■ all around the dorm, until they get tired of doing ■■■■ to you.
My best advice is to seek revenge as a method of teaching them your boundaries (consistency my friend, reverse the roles and do the exact to them EVERY morning, dog crap on their door nob, something) and what happens when they’re stepped over or start learning to ignore it entirely and move on, you’re there to learn (how boring! ).
I’d revenge if I knew who it was, which I don’t. I’m 95.98% positive that I know who but want to make sure before pissing off everyone. Hence the electrical doorknob would be a good bet if it’s legal.
Dang, I’ll not do a car battery than. I’ll just stick to two double A batteries with warning sign, door handle is electrical. Don’t touch. I’ll have to do that just so I don’t get a lawsuit because some dumb$ss with pacemaker decided to touch the door.
The 12v shock from a car battery won’t kill anybody, it’s more dangerous that the battery can explode.
Any spark remotely close to it with bad ventilation can ignite hydrogen gas from the battery and , people have gotten burned all over by acid and hit with fragments like this before.
All in all, fire hazard, explosion hazard…just stay away from the car batteries lmao.
You should talk to the manager about this. You might get kicked out if you do something that isn’t allowed. I’m not sure about American laws but it can be illegal if you record someone without permission. Usually security cameras has those signs letting trespassers know they are being recorded. And you can’t go to the police with illegal evidence.
What do you do when managers and the owner are both corrupt. I asked them for help and still hasn’t solved it. I know what’s going on here, I just need to get proof.
You should find somewhere else to stay. If that isn’t an option you will need to read some state laws and such to find out how you can get evidence without braking any laws yourself. Another option is just to go straight to the police and ask them for advice.
I’ll be looking into state laws. Police won’t do a thing til you have evidence. I can’t afford to move anywhere, jobless from poor economy, and so on so forth.I’ve been desperately looking for a job that pays well that a person with terrible memory can do. We have lots of refuges comming here without passports or money. And most people in sweden speak english fluently. But you should try to resolve your current living situation before planning to flee to another country. That would be… Drastic.
