Free Fallout 3 on Xbox One Requires Fallout 4 Pre-Order

Anyone wishing to net themselves a free copy of Fallout 3 on Xbox One will need to pre-order Fallout 4, it’s been revealed.

During this year’s E3, Bethesda’s Todd Howard announced copies of Fallout 4 on Xbox One will include Fallout 3, but it seems that wasn’t the full story. A post on the Bethesda Blog confirms you’ll need to pre-order the upcoming apocalyptic release to take advantage of the offer.

“We’re excited to announce - for a limited time - your pre-order of Fallout 4 for Xbox One will entitle you to receive Fallout 3 on Xbox 360,” it reads. “The code for Fallout 3 will be delivered to your Xbox message center in 7-10 days. Redeem your code on Xbox.com or on your Xbox 360.”

Currently the offer is only available on the Xbox Store pre-order page, leaving it unclear if this opportunity will also be extended to retailers; certainly, there’s no mention of it on Amazon. Unfortunately, this means if you’re keen on getting hold of Fallout 3 for free you’re going to have to pay the full digital price for the game, which is $59.99 / £59.99.

While still a good offer, you’ll need to wait for Xbox One backwards compatibility to launch on Xbox One before you can play the game on the new console. Currently you’ll have to make do with playing on 360. It also begs the question why you wouldn’t just pre-order Fallout 4 at another retailer for less, then pick up Fallout 3 second-hand somewhere else. Such a move would almost certainly work out cheaper.

The first Fallout 4 details were announced last month at Bethesda’s E3 conference, but Bethesda saved some news for the Microsoft conference, including cross-mod support between PC and Xbox One versions of Fallout 4.

What?

Basically what the article is saying is that the only way for you to get fallout 3 for free is by pre ordering the Digital Version of the game.

£60 is a tad much for the standard edition.

Once said by Bungies Luke Smith foreign currency is just foreign to him but atleast he was truthful lol. Most game developers are from USA and don’t really understand the currency

Yeah except in this case, I think it was the person writing the article that got the Conversion Factor wrong.

Probably because at game.co.uk it’s Preorder £42.99

I just checked the Xbox Store and sadly it is £60.

I’m sure there is a reason for it but I just don’t get it, £60 converts roughly to $94 how can they charge this without anybody questioning them or Microsoft?

I do not know why they would do that. It makes no sense.

Buy the cheapest you find anywhere else and if you have Fallout 3 on disk then it will work once F3 is out on the list

Change the region on you’re XB1 to American then restart your XB1. Also once it has restarted you’ll have to retype in you’re credit card info but the game will cost $60 American and should be cheaper buying our version instead of what you would pay. People are using this method when buying / preordering The Taken King Destiny DLC.

Don’t you have to switch your region to America every time you want to play it though?

No, there are games that are region free that you can play regardless of where you are and what region of the Xbox Store you downloaded it from.

For example: There is a F2P Game called Onigiri that is only available in the Japanese Xbox One Store. Once you download it from that region, you can switch back to your region and play it regardless. Though you will need an US Address that way they can bill the credit card used.

unless it’s the otherway round which i doubt it would be £38.53 as £60 sounds about right for a xbox one game brand new especially digital download prices from microsoft are always high.
