Help I just waited 5 hours for windows 10 to download then it came up with this error im losing my **** cant believe this happened woops added a ? on the end of help wow
Have you tried updating/downloading this way?
- Go to “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download” and delete all the files there. This will give Windows Update a clean slate.
-
Now open up Windows Update with the Windows key and type “Windows Update” and clicking on it.
-
Leave that open in the background and open your command prompt and run as administrator.
-
Type (but do not enter yet) “wuauclt.exe /updatenow” — this is the command to force Windows Update to check for updates.
-
Then go to Windows Update and click “Check for updates”. Then go to the cmd and enter the command you typed.
Try downloading Windows 10 from Microsoft using the link below
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Download it and select the option to burn to a disc, save the ISO to your desktop, and make sure you have winrar/daemon tools so you can open the ISO and run the setup. This worked for me when I couldn’t upgrade the way you’re doing it.
Labogani Thanks mate that worked I’m now running windows 10 and love it I got more helpful support on this site then I did on Microsoft they haven’t even replied to me yet
When prompted for the the product ID, it asks for it in this format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, but when I look at mine on current windows 7, I only have enough to fill 4 of those, not 5. Any ideas?
Pretty sure you will need to upgrade, get the w10 key then fresh install. I pulled the flash drive out with the W10 installer on it after my computer rebooted. Worked fine still.
That’s the thing though, when I try to upgrade it still asks for a key and there is no option to skip that step. I even tried booting from an iso disk but it tells me to first start the computer normally and upgrade it that way.
It only asked me for a key on clean install. Originally I was going to do a complete wipe and reinstall then it asked so I rebooted the computer and pulled the USB. It still went to the upgrade screen and didn’t ask for a key. Then I fresh installed and skipped the key and just hit the server with an activation request.
Here’s my problem,
I’m thinking of getting an Windows 7 ISO, and doing another clean install on my other laptop, then reserving my upgrade on that
You have to first upgrade from an existing win7/8/8.1 install, then you can perform the clean install 1 of 2 ways. Skip when it asks for your product key and it should auto activate since win10 learns your hardware or use something like magic key finder to obtain your new windows 10 key after upgrade and enter it when it asks during clean install(id suggest this way).
Can you go more into the second option, the magic key finder? I really don’t want to use a torrent Windows 7 and load it into my other laptop (Already has Windows 10, but no product key), and then get my free upgrade and have to reinstall Windows 10.
To use magic finder you’d need to have a pc that you upgraded from 7 to 10.
During the upgrade it makes your windows 7 key invalid and assigns you a new windows 10 key. I’ve been hearing things about the keys being hardware specific but I’m not 100% on that.
Finally got it to actually download and somewhat install, but I got stuck at the “Your computer will restart in a few moments.” it’s been stuck there for the past 3 hours.
So turn it off and back on.
Finally got it installed only to find out it decided to install a 32-bit OS instead of the 64-bit I selected. Can’t even use half of my ram now…
