Help with Hard Drive

Spent the last 2 days trying to get my WD 1TB blue internal hard drive to show up on my computer or even have the computer recognize it. It was recognizable in BIOS but couldn’t install Windows to it or anything.
I somehow got my computer to read it and formatted it as it wasnt usable (and that is what Google searches told me to do), but now the File System is RAW and once again it is un-accessable. Tried formating it but nothing, help pls.

Go to disk management and format it from there(windows key + r, diskmgmt) or you can format it while trying to install windows.
Shift + F10 bring up command prompt
Diskpart
list disk(will show all disk you have on your PC)
select disk #(Disk you want it installed on)
clean
Format FS=NTFS

Wait until it is done then type exit until CMD closes.

Tried formatting it in Disk Management but that’s how it became RAW.
When I type diskpart in CMD I can’t type anything else, like no text shows up at all. It’s just a blinking underscore on the next line :/.

Edit- got it to open on a restart, gonna try it again. Will update.

Edit 2 - when I type “format FS=NTFS” I get
"There is no volume selected.
Please select a volume and try again."

Are you trying to install windows on it? If so you don’t need to format it. I forgot the installer will automatically format it as long as you did the other steps. If it wants you to select a volume though type

List volume
find the volume you want(hopefully there is only one)
Select volume

Then try to format.

No I’m not trying to install Windows on the hard drive. I just want my computer to read it and let me access it for storage. I have Windows on an SSD that I’m using.
Like I literally just want the hard drive to be accessible so I can store ■■■■ on it, but the RAW file system doesn’t let me even open it.

Well if you cleaned the disk go back to disk management and partition the drive and format it again. There is no reason why disk management shouldn’t work for this. You can also just convert it if there is a drive letter assigned to it using convert drive: /fs:ntfs

Tried that T_T. Gives me an I/O error message. I’m going to try to reinstall Windows again and see what happens. Hopefully it decides to work out for me otherwise I’m ■■■■■■ cause the person who helped me build it doesn’t even live close to me.

And another question lol, PC has been taking forever to power on and power off today but I haven’t even installed anything or changed anything major from BIOS. Could this be a power issue? Like this literally has occurred ever since I added the optical drive I picked up from Micro Center.

Don’t you just have to initialize it in the device manager?

Pretty sure they did away with initialization in like windows 7. I’ve installed several SSD in my system without initializing a single one. It is worth checking though by right clicking the drive number.

Ugh, now its taking forever to boot up and get past the ASUS splash screen where you press F2 to get into BIOS… Pleaseeeeee, I’ll love anyone if they can help me out… Fresh build and this ■■■■ is giving me problems with the hard drive and boot times…

I had to initialize a drive in windows 7

Go to the bios and check the boot order to make sure that it isn’t trying to boot from the HDD then your SSD.

I’d start by unplugging all but the essential devices from your computer, including the DVD drive. Just to rule that out.

It does sound like an unitialized drive, but Windows normally lets you know when you plug it in. Try plugging it in while the computer is running.

Found out why everything was so slow. Something to do with the hard drive. When I removed the data cable from that it powered on much quicker, like literally the 3 seconds it should be.
Does this mean my hard drive is faulty? Or does it just require to be cleaned and formatted through CMD prompt since disk management wouldn’t do it.

Probably a faulty hard drive but you could attempt to format it through something like parted magic or another linux distro that is small enough to boot from ram. I always keep a copy of PMagic as it has secure erase and supported DOD protocol.

Drive was faulty, even PMagic couldn’t help me along with the other applications I tried. Apparently this has been a big issue with a lot of people who bought the same HDD recently. Returning it and hoping a Seagate will be better… Thanks for trying to help guys!
