Horizon crashes upon startup

I’ve literally tried everything guys. Running as admin, turning off AV, uninstalling and reinstalling (it gave me a Lua error while installing from the main page, but I found a version that didn’t) but it still gives me the same error. I don’t even get the logo, It just crashes instantly. I have the current framework installed and everything. I remember messing around with my services.msc a while back and I haven’t used Horizon a lot since then but I’ve wanted to use it recently and I just can’t. Does anybody know which service Horizon depends on? Or NET framework for that matter? I honestly think it has something to do with my services cause Modio gives the same error when I try to run it as well. I’m stumped here.

I assume you are getting the “Horizon has stopped working” error.
Try this new method that worked for a member. (I don’t know if this will actually work but try it):

Not 100% this works but still try!

I guess I should have mentioned I’m on windows XP. So, I have no idea what the equivalent of “Programs and Features” is.

http://www.microcentertech.com/tech_center/DB/read_article.php?faqid=./HowTos/HOW5005592B.htm

Should be similar to WIndows7/8

I’m also on WinXP. Make sure you have both Service Pack 3 & .NET Framework 4 installed. Horizon won’t run for me if I run as administrator, try just double clicking the icon like normal.

I know MS no longer supports XP and updating SP/Framework can be tricky if you have an outdated IE browser, you may need to download them to a flash drive and install that way.

@Pavman I tried all of that and none of the frameworks were on the list.

@Zodiac I have all of that and I still can’t run it.

Seriously I think it’s part of the services.msc thing. If I could just find Horizons dependencies I think it would work. I recently disabled a lot of my services because it was causing harm to my computer and I might have disabled the one that lets Horizon run.

Try just installing net framework 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

That’s what needed for Horizon.

i am attempting to re-download but I keep getting a message that says the file directory/location no longer exists and the program isn’t compatible with my computer and to contact the publisher. after downloading the .net framework it still gives me the same BS. my suggestion is to update Horizon out of beta and for windows 8s latest updates.

Uninstall Horizon if you currently have it installed and try downloading from here Horizon 2.8.1.1
If you keep in touch we will try our hardest to resolve your issue.

It gave me a setup error. Nothing else, It just says “Setup Error”

Try using this .net cleanup tool to remove all .net frameworks you may have on your PC then try the setup again: http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

Another setup error but this one had an error log

I fixed it. I used the Tweaking Windows Repair tool, installed .net framework 4 then installed 3.5 and Horizon works now. Thanks Pav for your help, i know it must have been frustrating! <3

thanks I did that and it is working properly now. the problem occurred after I “refreshed” my computer by the way.
new problem: my horizon keeps loading in offline mode even if im signed in on the website, like now as of 9am almost 10 central time and I seem to have forgotten just how to get it back into “online” mode.

First off, try disabling your anti-virus and/or windows firewall.
If that doesn’t resolve your issue, uninstall then redowload Horizon here: https://www.horizonmb.com/client/v2/Horizon.Setup.v2.8.1.1.exe
