It’s happened 3 times now - I use horizon almost on a daily basis with no trouble. Randomly when i press the taskbar shortcut it will say “horizon.exe doesn’t exist, delete this shortcut?” then I go to my C:/ProgramFiles etc and find out it’s gone, then when trying to redownload/install it goes straight to 100% completion but doesn’t actually install it. This is really annoying and an explanation would be great.
What AV do you use?
What’s an AV when its at home?
Antivirus software. AVG, Avast, Norton etc… Which do you have?
Ahhhh, I use AVG, but whenever I try to download Horizon i disable it to stop it deleting, once i finally get it back on my laptop I’ll enable it. Could this be the problem – I turned off AVG about an hour ago to download some modding tools, then Horizon disappeared a little while after
You need to completely disable AVG while downloading and installing.
I do that. My issue is more the deleting of Horizon without my input.
Horizon can’t delete itself it is AVG. Make sure you add and exception for it as well.
I’ve tried that, I’ll try again when I get the thing to install again. Thanks for the help
I use AVG as well, and had issues a few weeks back. This solution should work for you. Delete the installer(s) you have downloaded on your PC. Now right click on the AVG icon and choose to temporarily disable protection, choose to disable it until restart, now download Horizon from the download link in my signature, now go through with the install process. Now you will want to open AVG, now click on options in the upper right hand corner, now click on advanced settings, now look at the list to the left and click on exceptions, now look for add exception near the bottom and click it, for exception type select application or file, now click on browse next to the search bar, look to the left and click on your C drive, now click on Program Files (x86) and find and open the Daring Development Folder, open the Horizon folder, open the v2 folder, now find the Horizon Application and select it, that will be what you’re making an exception for, I will leave a screenshot below so you know what to click on in the v2 folder. Now click on Apply and then Ok in AVG. After you’re done with this process delete the Horizon installer(s) you have downloaded as AVG will continue to flag them as Malware. Now you can turn AVG protection back on and Horizon should work properly in online mode.
Add exception for this:
Please can you explain where the installers are, Everytime AVG kicks back in its removing the program, like you said it would.
Cheers Glen.
They’re wherever your browser downloads them to, most likely your downloads folder or desktop. You should know since you’ve installed Horizon before. AVG is most likely completely deleting them if you can’t find it. I have AVG as well, and if you follow my directions that you quoted you should be able to get it to work. You MUST make the exception for Horizon or AVG will keep deleting it.
I’m going to uninstall Horizon from my PC now and go through with the install again just to make sure I didn’t miss any steps.
Edit. I just re-installed the way I mentioned above and it went smoothly. Horizon opens and works as it should. Just make sure that all 3 lower boxes are checked when making the exception for Horizon in AVG.
