So I recently replaced my old 360 and want to use horizon but after installation when i try to start it, it does absolutely nothing and then briefly pops up that horizon.exe has stopped responding and is shutting down and i get nothing. not the logo not the program just nothing. so i tried looking it up, currently this pc is using .net 4.6 and i have managed to find that horizon doesnt work with anything higher than 3.5, which is annoying cause i use other programs that require a higher version of .net than 3.5. so whatever i tried to remove .net framework with a cleanup file from one of the pinned support pages and it did not seem to work, furthermore i tried to download .net 3.5 and no installer i found seemed to load either. so i am currently at a loss. running windows 8.1 btw probably should mention that even if its crammed in at the end. anyone know what i should do?
well perhaps i will cross my fingers that the next update will address this?
Download .net framework 3.5 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25150
i download that but it wont run, same as horizon when i try to run the .net installer it just never comes up
Horizon runs if you have a later version of .NET framework such as 4.6, as long as you have v3.5 installed. Have you tried running as administrator? If so and that didn’t work, do you have any anti-virus software installed?
yea i think im going to try that tonight, so far i have been running not from the administrator just using the password to gain the privileges to install and run it. tonight i will try it out from the administrator account directly. and i do have .net 4.6.2 and it says 3.5 is activated too. ive also got NORTON on this PC (i know its gross but its not my pc lol) but it doesnt say that it has taken any actions.
Go to your Control Panel -> Programs -> Turn Windows Features On or Off
Then expand and check everything related to .NET Framework.
yes i did that too, all .net framework features are on. Actually logging into the administrator account did the exact same thing as b4 also b4 anyone says it i don’t seem to have an “unblock” button or anything like that on any file properties windows either. Starting to think i just have to face it, this program wont work on this computer for some reason.
Have you tried turning Norton off?
cant don’t have proper “permission” but from what ive seen of norton 360 protection which handles antivirus and firewall on the pc, it always pops of notifications to blocked items, and all notifications to new files. it has flagged both the horizon install as safe and the horizon program as safe, but never told me it blocks anything when i try to run it. but norton is invasive and from my experience has a model of “hey ill tell you what you can do on this computer regardless of who knows better” kind of deal. really dont like it
there isn’t by any chance anyone else using norton 360 and can still run this, cause that’s what im blaming it on
Can you get the administrator password somehow? Then you should be able to disable norton.
edit: found this on the web in case you need to know how to disable norton. “If you right click the Norton icon in you system tray at the bottom right, you will see options to disable the functions.”
Ok i did that, i shut down norton from the administrator account. did the same thing. i dont know whats wrong this pc is so balls. maybe i should try and find out if i can hook up my old mothballed win7 pc to a monitor if it still works
Here is what I did. In windows explorer, set it to show hidden files. Then browse to C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Local\Daring_Development_Inc\H orizon.exe_StrongName_oj3dekulwqzgsr0yopf0ih1k4ipd ntld" replacing YOURUSER with your account name obviously, and just delete all the old stuff inside that folder. When I did it it started right up.
EDIT : I’m on Windows 10 also.
that sounds like something that is generated by the program, but it hasn’t run and i cant find that folder and any user accounts. i know how to show hidden files btw.
it wont load no matter what i do
logged into administrator and installed and tried to run. still did the same thing. i think my only hope is to set up my old win7 pc and hope that it works
