I can’t Install WeMod / "There was a error installing the application"

I have waited a long time to download this application and finally failed
can someone help me?

Welcome to the WeMod community.

Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. The main reason for WeMod not working is interference from antivirus programs. For example, an antivirus deleting a critical file that WeMod actually really needs.

The troubleshooting below is for those getting these error messages or similar:

  • There was an error installing the application.
  • Failed to extract installer.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall WeMod via the Add Or Remove Programs feature found in settings/control panel.

  2. Navigate to these two places and, if these folders still exist on your PC, delete them:

  • C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\WeMod
  • C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Roaming\WeMod
  1. Turn off your antivirus programs. Even if it’s just the default Windows Defender.

  2. Download WeMod’s offline installer from this direct link: https://api.wemod.com/client/download . Install the software.

  3. Before you launch WeMod, add it as an exception in your antivirus software. You may need to whitelist these specific files if you cannot whitelist the entire folder:

  • Update.exe, found in the folder located at C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\WeMod
  • WeMod.exe, found in C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\WeMod
  • WeModAuxiliaryService.exe, found in C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\WeMod\app-VERSION_NUMBER\resources\app.asar.unpacked\static\unpacked\auxiliary

If the issue continues after correctly doing the above steps:

  1. Open your antivirus program, even if it’s just the default Windows Defender.

  2. Go to the quarantine menu (alternatively known as the Virus Chest in some programs).

  3. Look for any WeMod files in there that were quarantined despite it being added as an exception. Whitelist and de-quarantine them from here.

If you have either of these, there are additional steps:

  • Comcast / Xfinity - Click for instructions .

  • BitDefender - Click for instructions .

  • Windows 7 (or if you recently did a reformatting of your PC, updated/upgraded your PC or may have outdated, missing or corrupt .NET Framework) - You need may to install .NET Framework 4.5.0 or above (preferably above). This is required to install WeMod and it does not come with Windows 7, so it will need to be manually downloaded.

  • A school/college/university internet connection - Use a VPN, there is an extra antivirus program on the school network that you have no control over. Try Opera Browser, which has a VPN built into it. Alternatively, Windscribe is free up to 10gb.

  • If you are from a country which controls and censors external internet connections, such as China, you may also need to use a VPN.
