I was wondering if there is a program somebody knows about that can look at these type of files because I am wondering if I can mod my save for Overlord but I haven’t really found anything but a CH trainer that costs money
Wikihow says that there are different kinds of .dat files and you need a specific program to read it properly.
Seems like your only option would be to either hex edit the save or use cheat engine.
Like snake said it depends on what type of dat file it is. It could be a normal txt file it could be something else.
I would try to use Cheat engine or look around if there’s a save editor for the game
As they have said, .dat is not specific.
But if you are looking for something easy, try notepad and see if for some reason it’s just plain text. You can also try a basic hex editor and see if that shows anything. I’d be surprised though
