So I just picked up a Slim RGH this afternoon for very cheap, $50 with 3 almost new controllers, a 1TB external & 320GB internal drive & a decent Triton headset. The guy said it was his kids and he couldn’t figure out how to use it properly. It’s not banned and boots up in about 10 seconds.
Problem is the fan seems to be set at 100% or close to it and I can’t find Dashlaunch or Freestlye dash(guy said both were on it) anywhere in the XEX menu. It’s been like 5 years since I had a Jtag so maybe I’m missing something. Also there’s no covers for any of the games on the drives and it just seems like it wasn’t setup right in many ways, although games do launch and play fine.
I think I just want to start from scratch with it like it was just RGH’d. What advice do you guys have? Can I wipe both of the drives? Is Dashlaunch actually on it but I can’t find it? Should I go with Aurora or Freestyle dash? I do know a bit about this stuff obviously, from being on here, and an Xbox guy, but wouldn’t mind some advice. Thanks guys!
I haven’t touched an RGH in who knows how long so you may need to double check some of this. Dashlaunch is installed to the nand when it is ran and what you should be looking for is the launch.ini which holds all the settings. I believe you can rerun dashlaunch from the console and delete all the current settings though. You would have to find it through XEX Menu if I remember correctly.
If you want to start 100% from scratch reformat the HDDs and use xell to write a new nand back.
FreeStyleDash has been discontinued meaning you may find some features on it no longer work properly like LiNK and the developers no longer update it or provide support for it. I think it still provides you with ability to control the fan speed under the settings menu as well.
Missing art-work covers probably means it needs updating to the latest dash if it isn’t already and then downloading the latest Title Updates for the games. Most of the time, you just setup a wired internet connection and Aurora downloads cover art for you. I don’t think you need to start completely from scratch, maybe just remove all Homebrew apps like XeX Menu/FSD etc. Then just reinstall those. That way you will have a fresh setup with default settings and then you can adjust them from there.
I used these videos when starting out, and I know you said you have experience with RGH/JTAG but they are there for memory refreshments. I’m not trying to teach you how to suck eggs anything. Hope this helps!
@Sykotik In Dashlaunch you can mess with the fan speed. The previous owner had it turned up all the way. God damn it was loud.
@Chris@Troy Thanks for the advice. I found Dashlaunch & Freestlye in XEX. I wasn’t using the D-Pad so I wasn’t able to get to the internal HDD it was only showing the external. Anyway, got the fan speed back to normal. Now to get this thing set up properly and updated. I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions sooner or later lol.
