Lizard Squad returns to knock Xbox Live offline again

[/img]The infamous hacking/trolling group known as Lizard Squad has claimed it has once again attacked the Xbox Live network, knocking it offline for gamers across the globe.

Reports of the outage were first logged by users at around 5am GMT on Monday, 16 February with the Xbox Live Status dashboard still showing that there is limited access to the network over three hours later.

Lizard Squad, which rose to prominence at the end of 2014 for its attacks on the PlayStation Network as well as Microsoft’s online gaming system, has claimed responsibility. The infamous hacking/trolling group known as Lizard Squad has claimed it has once again attacked the Xbox Live network, knocking it offline for gamers across the globe.

Having had its previous account suspended by Twitter, the group has been using the @LizardPhoenix account since 31 January and on Monday morning tweeted:

Xbox (360) Live #offline
— Lizard Squad (@LizardPhoenix) February 16, 2015

The group also made reference to the fact that the last time it attacked the Xbox Live network it only stopped when paid off by Kim Dotcom with vouchers for his online cloud storage service Mega, telling him now “to take his vouchers and shove them up his fat ass.”

Looking at reports of the Xbox outage on Down Detector, the majority of reports came from the US, though considering the timing of the attack this is unsurprising.

Lizard Squad said that the attack was carried out in cooperation with a number of hackers from another group called LNO (Like None Other)

Lizard Squad have used distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on Xbox Live and PSN previously as a way to promote its own DDoS-for-hire service known as LizardStresser.

Fix yo’ sht MS! Seriously, what’s wrong with you? This is like, the 5th(?) attack, and you’ve still yet to do anything? Pathetic. You’re a multi-billion dollar company, stuff like this shouldn’t happen this often. Still doesn’t really excuse the actions of LS though, they’re dcks.

why do ppl say the infamous lizard squad if they are on the news and everyone is seeing them everywhere then they are famous there never going to stop hacking.

(1). DDoS’ing is not hacking - it’s simply flooding a server with so many requests that it basically just gives up.
(2). Infamous = famous for doing something bad.

Really man They need to get a life this is getting ******ed what are they getting out of this…or are they compensated for something small in between your legs…oh yay twitter followers…i mean come on M$ and PSN need to get this crap fixed and stop messing around…jeez thought this crap was over with

I haven’t had any problems. When did this occur?

It was only on 360 I think.

let me ask u something if someone is hacking in to xbox’s server and flooding It that is called hacking ddosing is just hacking bc im sure if they wanted to they could hack a account

yep… thats a member alright

I feel as if we should follow this Reddit idea/tactic/movement and delete the various threads regarding the recent problem.

If everyone just started ignoring them, they would stop. Guaranteed.

I wish we used this tactic shared by SNiPaZoR a long time ago. I hate lizards.

Maybe there should be a kickstarter group started to fund a hit squad to seek out members or similar groups to lizard squad and eradicate them(only these troll groups. Anonymous and such actually are cool if you look at what they do!) . This will stop these kids thinking they’re so cool at DDoSing Steam, PSN, and Xbox Live services.

Okay, I’ll explain this further for you I guess. Every time you visit a website, (or server or whatever) you need to send a small amount of data, and also cache a bit of data too (images and that fun stuff). Both of these things can slow down the server, given you are sending enough requests. Now, imagine sending thousands or hundreds of thousands of these requests. That’s a lot of data being sent to and retrieved from the server. This can cause the server the website or service is hosted on to crash or shut down.

So, unless you consider visiting a website hacking, DDoS’ing is not hacking.

And no, they can’t “just hack an account”. Microsoft uses top of the line data security and encryption. This isn’t a Hollywood movie where you can hack the entire world in one second with a USB, this is the real world where it can take a couple hours to do a simple SQL injection.

k…

You don’t have to hack anything in order to send a request to a server (in this circumstance).

ok bro

I understand (or assume) that you’re saying that to me, but please make use of the “Reply With Quote” feature. It makes it very clear who you’re addressing. It also makes it easier for people who aren’t participating in his thread, or who haven’t seen it yet to follow the conversation.

All they are doing is pulling Microsoft’s IP which anyone with half a brain could do. Then they just hit the IP with a botnet or a stresser, either one is capable of hitting Xbox Live off, depending on how strong the botnet is or stresser.

I laughed so loud when I read, “I’m gonna ddos your ass off!”
