Need Help With Windows Loading Problem (Vista)

Well, my older laptop isn’t able to run Windows 10, so I’m trying to get 10 on my newer laptop. Now, my issue is, whenever I turn on my computer it loads, and I boot it up to the point where it’s “Resuming Windows” and it goes to a black screen with my cursor.

I’ve tried a lot of different trouble shooting but I’m no expert. I’m thinking/trying to just factory reset the laptop, so I can actually get into Windows and move Windows 7 over to it so I can get Windows 10 for free. Anyone here know what’s the problem and or know how to correct it? (I want to wipe my computer clean, so going to a factory restart is fine by me).

My thought: I’m beginning to assume it’s stuck in some hibernation mode, but that’s just my guess.

Just a few helpful info: Laptop is; Dell Inspiron 1545.

It happened to me a lot, my guess is that its a virus (not sure about that tho.) Anyways i fixed this by pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE and launching task manager then running explorer.exe shows

You did CTRL-ALT-DELETE on the initial load up of the laptop? Could you explain this more step by step please?

Doesn’t it show you a black screen with your cursor on it? if it does then you press CTRL-ALT-DELETE on that screen

I’ve tried, but nothing will show up when I do that. The only luck I have when doing that is when the Dell Logo is loading up.

Try clicking SHIFT 5 times to trick it and open an explorer window, if it doesn’t work your best would be this :

  1. Use the vista DVD to go to the repair mode.
  2. From the same screen where you do the system restore, there’s an option to open an administrative command prompt.
  3. That should open in X:\Sources or something like that
  4. Go to the windows drive by entering C:
  5. Now go to the windows event log folder on your machine (C:\Windows\System32\winevt):
    cd c:\windows\system32\winevt
  6. ren Logs Logs_bad
  7. mkdir Logs
This will create an empty folder for new event logs.

Restart the system and cross fingers.

If only I knew where that disc is.

Are you able to get to boot mode? If you are, you could create a bootable usb drive with a flash drive large enough to hold Win 7.

I had to do this a few years ago with a Vista PC my that my dad brought home from work, it had similar issues as yours.

I downloaded a cracked Win 8, created the bootable flash drive, started up the PC and pressed the F8 key before Windows started, selected to boot from that flash drive and installed Win 8. I don’t remember every step as it’s been awhile, but it’s not that difficult. Google it up.

Hmmm, I think I might try this. Since I have Win 7 on this PC, do I just copy it to a USB? Simple as that?

What do you mean? You have it installed as you OS or you have the actual Win 7 installer? If it’s just your installed OS I don’t think it’s possible.

Would you know how I would go about this? All I know is I got Win 7 cracked.

It sounds like you just have it installed as your OS. I will look around and see if I can find a good DL for you. I will PM you. In the meantime look into how to create a bootable usb drive to install Win 7, and make sure you can get your laptop to boot to boot mode.

Okay. I was just looking up how to make a bootable usb. I appreciate your looking for a good DL, I have resources to go to but not so sure on their DLs.

There’s been issues of this and depending on how fast your computer is it can take some time to finish the install
