Started up the game, not even 15 minutes in it freezes, forcing me to quit. I’m using the terrain tool and have no other mods or cheats up

We’re not really game support here, just WeMod support. Your best place to ask about this would be No Man’s Sky’s official discussion forum on Steam or Reddit.
Some advice I can offer you though is to verify the integrity of the game files via the Steam launcher, this will scan for and fix any issues with the game files, such as corruption. Instructions if needed: Steam Support :: Verify Integrity of Game Files.
And I’m assuming this terrain tool is a third-party mod? Try disabling it and see if your game runs any smoother. Outdated mods cause issues in games too.
