So many people believe in Herobrine. I just wanted to point out this:
I know about Herobrine…
Herobrine was never in the game. He was never intended to be a mob in Minecraft. There is no code in the game for him to exist, or for any mob to act like him.
The whole “Herobrine” thing was made up by someone (way back then). How he/she did it: The player took a photoshopped image of this “herobrine” and put it on a door in a video. So many people thought it was real, but they never really encountered him. People started making up stories about Herobrine, and some people still believe the stories today. There was a time I believed in Herobrine. And even the developers of Minecraft still joke about him today, saying on the tips of the Xbox edition: “We think that 4J studios removed Herobrine from the Xbox edition, but we’re not too sure.” And in some update change logs, they sometimes put:
Removed Herobrine
Once again, Herobrine does NOT exist.

I seriously think that Herobrine went hoax to marketing ploy to add some more replay value into Minecraft, to explore and make more worlds and deliver more videos on the subject to “find Herobrine”.
Mojang AB debunked Herobrine as a hoax, but Herobrine has become a symbol of the game and part of its culture, so live and let live I guess.
But on a lighter note, I think only newer players (post 1.0.0 PC Release) could ever believe in Herobrine; in my personal experience this remains true. When my friend’s sister got into Minecraft she told my friend and I about Herobrine, but my friend expressed how he thought it was a pile of rubbish, and that his sister was crapping herself every time she went into a cave. My friend and I have played since Alpha and never seen, or believed, real physical evidence of the mob’s existence, and that’s 6 years of playing - something should’ve cropped up by then.
I would like to add some information when we are at it. I have designed texture packs and skins, I have managed server plug-ins, used a few mods and even created Minecraft animations. Because of this I know how easy it is to fake herobrine footage.
Like I said in another thread, herobrine is a gaming creepypasta (like ben drowned) and should be treated as such.
@sNaKe I should probably add also that I once made a Bukkit plugin for a local server for my friends and I - and my best friend’s sister who was terrified of Herobrine, so I made this plugin and ran it locally and what it was spawned Herobrine textured Steve’s in dark caves (only one 1000 blocks) and he had the creeper AI - he’d follow you and blew you up if he stood next to you.
I loved every minute of that day, helped me really get into Java after that point.
