What are your thoughts about cross-platform gaming?

So Microsoft has recently announced that cross-platform gaming can now be a reality. IGN has posted a recent article on the matter found here…

What are your thoughts about the subject? Should it happen? If so, why? If not, why?

I personally am against the idea. At least against PC and Consoles gaming together. The obvious reason is because ‘Keyboard & Mouse’ is commonly known to give users an “advantage” over controller users.

Being a new PC gamer and long-time console gamer, I can vouch that this is true. If game developers decide to support the use of cross-platform gaming then they implemented server filters which only allow Controller users to play on separate server from Keyboard & Mouse users, then this just might work. Sony and Microsoft have been rivals for many years so there will be good competition in that respect, a true PS4 vs Xbox One battle.

I think its a fair idea as long as there are separate servers. Different consoles / pcs may run better giving them an advantage. I don’t believe the peripherals’ of the console gave much to do with it but the machine itself. If it works it works, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. Idc either way. But on another note, I thought the Xbox One allows you to connect a keyboard and mouse and game with it?

The PS4 and X1 now allow you to use a keyboard & mouse, yes. But most console users don’t buy those accessories because they are happy with a controller, at least that’s what my observation has told me.

I don’t think this would work. To much would need to change for this to even be remotely possible.

Some issues:

• compatibility issues. PC game builds can contain additional features that isn’t in the xbone/ps4 version.

• Cross-Platform cheating. PC modders would be able to affect console users.

See. That is what I thought as well when they were going to do this. But I’m thinking they are restricting it to certain games which is beyond stupid. I still think that I should of gone with the alien alpha console instead.

If anything, Microsoft should have done what alienware did. Put a computer in a console and put a switch to turn desktop mode|console mode on|off
