Every time I edit the save file and reinsert it with Horizon to the USB on my XBOX it gives me the error “disc unreadable clean it”
I followed every step carefully from here:
When I found my exp hex value, I deleted the highlighted numbers, double clicked on ‘overwrite’ at bottom of HxD (to change it to ‘insert’), then saved it and injected it back into my save using Horizon. I got this info from here:
But that made no difference. Hoping somebody can help??
Thanks for the reply, I was hoping to find someone with experience of hex editing!
Just so I’m clear on what you’re saying:
I have noted my exp amount in game (mass effect 1 I’m lv 15) 11320 which when converted to Hex is 2C38, I find it in HxD, it’s highlighted like this: ‘2C 38’ so should I then leave just those numbers highlighted or should I highlight the 4 zeros before it? So in that case it would look like:
'00 00 2C 38’
and THEN click PASTE WRITE button, then post the hex code for the new exp amount?
(HEX for level 49: 00 03 A2 13 This will put you at 238,099 exp and all you need is 1 EXP to level up to 50.)
The reason I’m asking is because I originally did type it in when highlighted, but only
2C 38 without the 4 zeros before it and the same thing happened. In fact I think I may have also tried it with the 4 zeroes highlighted as well but I can try again since I’m not sure.
Either way, if you could post the exact steps in detail it’d be great! I’m even getting the same error message when I try with a save editor for Mass effect 1 I downloaded
I followed your steps exactly but got the same error message.
I even tried it with a different save file, this time with my money value 20564=
00 00 50 54 and I changed it (by just 1) to 20565= 00 00 50 55, but this time using the Ctrl B method it said it contained invalid hex, so I just put the cursor before the 4 and changed it to 5. Unfortunately it had the same result.
I also tried that file’s exp value 12070= 00 00 2F 26 into 12100= 00 00 2F 44, having to resort to the same method of placing the cursor before the 2 to type 44, with the same result.
That method is the exact one used in this video and it worked for everyone in this thread:
It’s seems that if I change any value in my save file by even 1 it is detected by my Xbox (even when done from a save editor), I’m at a loss. I’ve succeeded in modding my saves from other games using save editors (such as horizon’s built in Oblivion save modder) without problems, but this is the 1st time I’ve tried hex editing. Any ideas?
Thanks for the reply, don’t worry I completely get where you’re coming from. I’m new to hex editing which is why I’m asking here. But I don’t understand the stuff you said:
‘any punctuation type character or any alpha above “F” with throw the same error–that means there is no OH, only Zero.’
Not sure what this means, but I copied and pasted the hex codes without adding anything into the search box in HxD, then I followed your steps exactly. I wish I could think what I’m doing differently but I’ve done it about 8 times and really can’t see what I’m doing wrong.
‘IF YOU ARE USING HxD Hex Editor, it is programed to ignore spaces in precopied hex values. If you put the correct values, in the correct place ON THE LEFT HAND PANEL which is the hexadecimal side It should work fine.’
Not sure what you mean about preoccupied hex values, but I’m definitely putting it on the left hand side (the larger part of HxD) exactly as in the video I linked above.
How do I delete the update on my xbox 360? By playing for a bit do you mean I can load a file and save to a new file, or I have to change some of my values )such as money or exp)?
Go to settings/system/storage/HardDrive/GamesAndApps/mass effect 1, look for something called title update, select it by pressing [A] and choose the delete option. You should also clear the system cache afterwards by hovering over the harddrive in “settings/system/storage”, pressing [Y] and choosing the clear system cashe option.
Oh do you mean even if I delete the update, my save file will still be unhackable unless I start a new game? I guess I’ll probably wait for the next playthrough and do it then, thanks for all the advice, and now I know why it wouldn’t work all this time!
