Finally leaving windows

Just wanted to mention it here since their support on stuff requires the community to want it.
I’m finally giving up windows, after a while of not doing it because wemod wasn’t on linux I’m done dealing with Microsoft trying to shove AI down my throat. Previously I canceled my Pro subscription because I wanted to see how the “wand” change was gonna effect things but apparently I would have done it anyway because of what Microsoft has been pulling

How’s it been?

I’ve been thinking about switching over to SteamOS once they finally release their version of the PC. I’ve been looking to leave Windows for some time now.

I’ve been a little bit hesitant on the Mac, but it’s looking like an affordable option, and it plays all the great games. You know, I just got an iPad, and it played Resident Evil wonderfully until a recent update.

But yeah, let me know, please. I’m very interested in knowing how people are liking whatever OS they’re into.

I was very confused for a moment because I forgot I can get emails from here

Anyway, I switched to mint, Been good so far. Had to run a duel boot system because sadly thunderstore does not work on linux and me and my friends play modded lethal company so sadly I cant ditch windows completely, I do run a stripped down version of it tho. But ya other then a couple modded games linux has done very well. Almost no issues with games, proton stays up to date, and steam does proton hotfixes for games that break. The only issue I had was steam not recognizing how to run HVAC, but thats a small price to pay to not have to deal with windows

Also im pretty sure you can run SteamOS on any device, one moment

Ya, just search SteamOS download and steam has it right there. Likely wont work with NVIDIA because linux is notoriously hard to run, but if you have an AMD GPU you shouldn’t have any issues on that front

Edit: Didn’t explain it properly, Nvidia GPU’s are hard to run on linux because NVIDIA keeps it closed, AMD not only releases its drivers for linux but iirc has them opensource so people can modify it as needed

Oh no, don’t worry, it’s cool. I technically necroed a thread.

But I think discussions of Linux platforms are really needed, and you mentioned NVIDIA not working with SteamOS. There is a Linux platform that is really good and works with NVIDIA, and from what I hear, it would be Bazzite. I definitely recommend you look into that.

However, I’m holding out hope that there’s gonna be more compatibility with NVIDIA and SteamOS if the demand is high enough. I know me personally, I like getting high-end PCs at least twice within a decade, so it typically sets me up for quite a long time.

But I’m gonna most likely bite the bullet and get a Steam Machine, even though it’s not gonna be specced out. Once they choose to release it, the new controller is looking pretty cool, but I really wanna switch from Windows.

Thank you for your input.
