Microsoft patented an Xbox gaming helmet

In 2010 Microsoft filed a patent for an Xbox visual headset, presumably in anticipation of making Kinect players look a little goofier than they already do waving their arms around.PatentBolt reports that the platform holder was looking into two styles of headset. The first was an aviation styled helmet, while the second was a pair of sunglasses compatible with MP3 players, smartphones and other devices.According to the site, the devices would “enable the wearer to view images from a computer, media player, or other electronic device with privacy and mobility” and could also be adapted for stereoscopic displays. Since the eye can’t focus on images less than a few centimetres away, a compact display system could have been used to provide the image. The only problem was creating an image using compact, robust optical arrangement threatens the quality of the image. To solve this, Microsoft proposed to use a virtual image projector with a “laser configured to form a narrow beam, first and second dilation optics, first and second redirection optics, and a controller. The first and second dilation optics each have a diffraction grating,” whatever that means.Obviously it’s important to remember that these devices might never see the light of day, but we’d like to see them hit mass market, even if it’s just for the lulz.Last week, Microsoft said there will be no next-generation Xbox at E3 in June.

HAHAHA All i can think of is demolition man…

They made something like this as its’ own game console. I believe it was sega, and you could only play it for 2 hours to avoid eye damage.

Reminds me of the Xbox April fools joke a while back.

I really wanted one of them at the time. Trolls.

Honestly though. Having a helmet with built in LCD and 7.1 surround sound would be pretty legit.

This is one of the dumbest ideas ever. I would feel like a complete fool just having one of these in my possession. IMO

only if i had those arm control like they have at the arcade place it would be a great work out haha

Don’t knock it before you try it. Because I guarantee if you could afford it and Microsoft released it you’d buy it.

Its revolutionary, you’d be dumb not to buy it. lol.
I bought a Wii, not because it seemed like a true gaming console but because it was different.

Its called a Nintendo Virtual Boy bro.
It didn’t cause eye damage, but it some people it’d cause headaches because it was a 3D console.

Honestly if you think about it, it is ****ing awesome. Surround sound gaming helmet?.. I mean unless you live with people that you care what they think of you, it’s awesome

A large company like Microsoft wouldn’t release a completely goofy looking product. I can rely on them that much.

Never thought i would get that many thanks off that post O_o

I wonder if my mom will let me take off my tin foil helmet to use this…

Metro from Win8 disagrees. I installed win8 and downgraded because Metro is a piece of **** on computers. On tablets/phones/touchscreens its fine… but ugh.

Dude with those glasses you’d be like a cyborg. The things that would be easier and safer with them are endless! Plus, you’d be like Cookie from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide

Fake and Gay

this is a stupid idea. know there just trying to make money. imagine how much these would cost. it’s just like the commercials they put only for rich people. like the suit they made that makes you feel pain from damage you take in the game.

obviously this is fake… are you guys aware that april 1st is right around the corner?

Might be cool.

This would be a cool idea 50 years from now when it’s actually possible and realistic. Today, it will just end up like the horrible 3D phase were stuck in.
