What difficulty do you choose when playing a game for the first time?

I wanted to know what difficulty setting you all like to select when playing a game for the first time. I personally always select Normal and I will compete the game again on other difficulties if there is any need too (e.g;- extra costumes or unlock an achievement.)

*Not all games have the following difficulty settings, or any option to choose at all. Make your decision on what you would generally select if the choice was there.

  • Very Easy (if the game has this option)
  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Very Hard
  • Extreme

Make your choice by posting below and/or using the poll above.

I select Normal too usually. I’m not one of those people who try to beat it on Extreme just for the achievements. I just want to play and enjoy the game.

As hard as it goes. I would rather die a thousand times than play the game twice.

I usually play on normal. I like being able the breeze through games at quite a quick pace but have atleast some sort of challenge.

I’d have to agree with this, except I would still play it twice

Depends on the game and if I got all achievements on the first time through or not.

This^. I don’t have the patience to play campaign again. And especially if it’s also a multiplayer game. I don’t want to play campaign on a harder difficulty when I know I could spend that time raging at all the dumbasses on my team opposed to raging at myself over not being able to get the checkpoint, or finish the chapter/level without dying.

I go for easy difficulty

Now I fully agree with this, I do this with most of my games

This.

I too would rather die a lot, not breeze through the game, and gather every achievement rather than breeze through the story just to than play it again on a harder difficulty. Than again, there are those few games in which I’ve play a dozen times because the campaign is really good so I wouldn’t care which difficulty I choose because I’m bound to go back and replay the game. (ex: Halo: 3 / Call of Duty: 4)

Usually choose Normal and go back and progress up the difficulties if the game is good enough.

Stuff like Fallout and Skyrim I always make it the hardest because it adds to immersion.

always the hardest setting for achievements

Ever wondered if your team feels the same way?

i normally do the hardest difficulty it offers me.
No sense in going in on the weakest difficultly then busting your balls going through it again.
Just get your ass whipping over with.
Makes its worth it when you finish it.

Hard, but usually not Veteran or Very Hard. I need SOME breathing space usually.

I bet a lot of ppl are going to say Extreme just to sound cool lol

I always play on the easiest difficulty or normal for a first playthrough on a game so I can enjoy the story and get a good feel for it without being killed every 10 seconds or whatever. It’s good to do side missions and explore without any heavy resistance or pressure. After that I always play on the hardest difficulty if I enjoy the game to get achievements and for the challenge.

Normal or hard (depending on how easy the game is).

Hardest available every time. Most games are way too easy these days and it’s a lot of fun on the harder difficulties even if you do die more often. Most games also give you extra achievements and in some cases the achievements for the lower difficulties (halo) when you complete it on the hardest one too.

:stuck_out_tongue: I mean hey they could rage at me all they want if I’m doing bad. But, not that I’m saying I’m MLG status, when I did play CoD and Gears (my favorite games) I would always be at the top of the scoreboard in my game, or at least have a positive score opposed to feeding kills to the enemy team.
