What do you miss from the old forum?

Hey guys!

About this time a year ago @Frank, the team, and I were working extremely hard on Infinity. During the summer and fall we spent most of our time developing a great new application. The biggest obstacle we had was to somehow create a home for PC related discussion when our community was mainly there for Xbox. We could no longer be HorizonMB. Community activity had already slowed and what was left was a tight knit group. Some had been around since Horizon360 and others had joined not too long ago. Which is why we came up with idea for WeMod, a place for both to coexist.

Of course the option to create an entirely new community was there, but we didn’t want to lose touch with all of you. Our focus was shifting to PC game modding and it would be hard to split time between the two. We love you guys and ultimately that’s why we brought you with us to WeMod.

While attempting to morph our forum software into something new and cutting edge that we believed everyone would appreciate, we lost sight of what matters most, what the community thought about it all. Our biggest regret is that we kept everyone in the dark. Suddenly one day in December we launched. New app, new name, new forum. Everything was different. When we finally heard you, it was a little too late.

We should have asked for your feedback and input on everything and we apologize for not doing that sooner. So moving forward we plan to include you guys on way more of what we’re doing behind the scenes. We want to know what you like and don’t like, because in the end, everything we do is for you.

So our first question for you is: What do you miss about the old forums? What would you like to bring back? What do you dislike about the current forum software?

Not hinting at anything, but this feedback is VERY important :stuck_out_tongue:

TL;DR We’re sorry for making so many changes to the community without getting feedback. Now we look to the future and with your help we hope to release some even cooler updates.

p.s. Infinity and WeMod 2.0 is looking incredible, we can’t wait to show you guys some sneak peeks very soon.

While I am sure you want responses from other members, I will provide my input anyways for people to see.

I do not think the forum software is what should be discussed at this point. Even before we changed to Discourse, the site’s activity was dropping and it was not due to software. We were all familiar with vB. Hell- many of us preferred it. Even if vB was worse, we were used to it and nostalgia plays a funny role in people’s lives.

I know you and Frank are aware, but I have always had strong opinions on the community here. It’s pretty much the sole reason I am here today. I have met real life friends on this site so I have many opinions on it.

The problem is when XboxMB started, we had something special. We had a very unique reason to visit the site and the topics we excelled in were increasing rapidly in popularity, Right now, we don’t have anything ground breaking.

I mean no offense to the immense amount of work that everyone has put into Infinity. But realistically, it’s not ground breaking, as trainers for PC have been around for a long long time. Infinity is certainly better than those, but it will be hard to bring in a crowd when opinions and methods have already been set in stone.

People like to call me “negative” but I prefer the term realist. The way I see it, the site and it’s activity will not change unless we come up with something new. And huge. Ground breaking.
This is obviously a lot to simply ask of you which is why I don’t expect it. But I think that is what the site would need.

To sum it up, what I miss the most about this site is people wanting to come here. That’s what XboxMB had in it’s glory days was a community that wanted to come back. I don’t have any ideas about how to bring that back, because honestly I don’t think you can.

I agree, with everything You have said @Travis, but this stands out the Most as Probably the biggest issue.
I am not going to name names and start crap on the open floor…but their are certain Moderators with big heads.
My wife calls them “GodMods” on her forums( every forum has them), MEANING SPECIFICALLY> those moderators with a god complex They “are always right and can NEVER do any wrong” even when CLEARLY they are way out of line or stepping over boundaries or simply unable to reason the notions of opinions from facts.

This is the main thing that has driven me back to lurking, and ignoring Most everything anyone says.
I bought my Diamond status, I do my thing, and at the price of losing the privileges purchased.I CANNOT aford to give a Sh!t about anyone or anything around here.

Is that rude? Probably. Was it Negative? Definitely! Is it the truth and reality of the matter? It could ever be put into a more precise manner–and the truth can often be a ugly mean spirited thing.

Everyone was drawn back (albeit briefly) with the new look, it was mostly confusion and Many were stuck in that wondrous state of WTF is this??!?!?!
In the end thins are just like they always were, everyone has their cliques, or groups, and Any of those those who are independent are mostly silent…new wore off, confusion turned to dislike.

Less about the people problems Now----the never ending page scroll crap is aggravating
vB may have been “trash”, I didn’t see any issues and found it’s UI very user friendly and Organic compared to WTFE this discourse crap is.
Further more looking at the word definitions this Community is a tired place, that is far from communing in any way.

DISCOURSE
noun
1.communication of thought by words; talk; conversation:
earnest and intelligent discourse.2.a formal discussion of a subject in speech or writing, as a dissertation, treatise, sermon, etc.3.Linguistics. any unit of connected speech or writing longer than a sentence.
verb (used without object), discoursed, discoursing.4.to communicate thoughts orally; talk; converse.

You asked the “COMMUNITY” a Dangerous set of questions…THAT MEANS…

DON’T GET SORE OVER IT

What do you miss about the old forums?

It has been so long now since the change happened, that I honestly don’t remember too much about the old forums. I joined when it was XboxMB then saw the name change to HorizonMB.

If there was one I thing I could try and narrow down though, it would be community activity. Things seemed a little more “busy” when it was HorizonMB. I know some of it has decreased because things change like our personal circumstances and then some really didn’t like the new forum so decided to move on or simply just faded away maybe!? The only problem is though, I know it’s not that simple to ignite a community like that.

It could be that I use Reddit a lot and I can see new topics being posted every 5 minutes on there. If I come on here, I can check back every 1 hour or so to find nothing has happened other than the occasional topic of “Horizon can’t connect, I want my money back!”.

This is probably an unfair comparison to make, but I would love to see this forum with that much activity!

On a more minor note, I miss my original forum stats. I know there was a confessed mistake that caused the problem during the launch of WeMod which is kool, becuase mistakes happen. I just feel that I built those stats up over the years only to find that my new forum stats aren’t legit. It would be hard to correct at this stage becuase I have no idea what my stats should be. Sounds funny, I know on a forum that encourages cheating on games to make things look not so legit.

What would you like to bring back?

I can’t think of anything at this time becuase I was one of those who supported the new software and forum. If I think of anything, I will update this answer.

What do you dislike about the current forum software?

It’s does what it needs to do for me. I’m not one for searching through people’s profiles to see what they’re up too or what fancy signature they are using.

I really like INFINITY. The game collection is a little small meaning I might have to look elsewhere for a Trainer… but I know that will only improve with time and developers must eat, sleep, and poop like all of us.

I have not been around here for as long as some of the members here but when i joined, forums were using VB and then they suddenly changed it to Discourse.

I am not a fan of VB but i liked it better than Discourse and so hated it just like everyone else but you know what, it has kind of started to grow on me. The forums definitely have its strong points versus other forum software out there but also its drawbacks. I think it lacks in showing off individuality, the lack of signatures, bigger avatars, post counts etc. that other forums emphasize on, it is a huge minus for discourse. But it makes discussion, finding and reading threads more fun and easy.

I think if discourse can bring out that individuality back in the forum experience, people would definitely like or love it. It definitely has a lot of things going for it that other forums software don’t.

If you ever think of changing forum software, xenforo should be the choice!. I am pretty sure i can sway @frank’s mind, just need a little more convincing and maybe votes from you guys.

@Sykotik I am a regular on another forum and there is a mod there that i have a lot of history with and despise. We used to be friends but then he moved up in the world and become a different kind of person. Things are so bad with him that he deletes my posts every now and then, i complained to the administration but him being a mod obviously he has friends. It pissed me off and i used to complain there to no effect. I love the forums so there is no way i was going to leave, you know what i have gotten used to it now that i don’t even care. I have more than a 100 posts deleted by him by now and that number is increasing.

My point being you don’t have to like everyone to enjoy what you enjoy about a forum. You are still here even after all the negative things you say about this place so you must like something about it. Enjoy that and just ignore the things or the persons you hate. I don’t know your history with the person(s) you’re pointing out about but you can definitely work out something if you want to.

Well that’s the thing, @STN I long ago reached a point where I realise that changes needed or not are too much to expect of certain people. Some people are so tied to their personal beliefs and opinions so much so that they may as well be written in stone as factual. When it comes to disagreements, there are those who cannot simply agree to disagree and STFU; as if it is some sort of cowardice to do so.
As aggravating as it may be for me at most times, and as much as I look at the forums full of people acting high and mighty whilst not realising they are in truth conducting themselves like a petty flock of 8 year olds I don’t check up around here for Myself.
I check up for those who are where I once was…looking for Game Mods and the answers why what is or is not or how.
Past that, I have beaten a dead horse to the point of being quite indifferent to the site…I know I am not alone in this simply because the forums would not be so damned dead all the time.

Not to mention it would be quicker to thrive with happier individuals out to help each other instead of the Dck waving ignorance that goes on currently.
I just do not have the patience to give a sh
t, and I have for the better part chosen to no longer be a part of the Wemod “community” and just be on of probably 1500 names, that is registered as a user, but never says anything to anyone.

Seems like you have a lot of strong feelings towards a few individuals which isn’t what this thread was about, but I hear you. I really do.

If you have any concerns or any suggestions to combat this problem you’re describing, feel free to shoot me a PM. I’d be happy to hear you out.

I think a lot of what you’re talking about was happening before we made the change anyway.

Also your avatar really adds to the emotion in your posts. lol

Wemod - 300% more issues with 50% less “regulars” compared the old, outdated horizonmb! Available now!

Not satisfied? Well then, have some pc trainers that will be outdated several days after each update!

You think this sound great but have issues with the softwares? Of course we can help you with that, here’s some solutions that helps less than 10% of the users!

Now THAT’S a sale pitch!

Jokes aside, I honestly don’t know what to do on this site anymore. I have nothing to do with pc gaming and horizon is dying out. I guess I will go back to lurking around until I get a chance to be usefull.

TBH, “feelings” makes is seem more personal than it is…at least in my mind. Yes the issue was pre-existing, but the change brought it into a more prevalent nature. As I mentioned there was a spike in site activity based in curiosity and confusion…“WTF is Wemod…where did HmB go?”
After the confusion died, and “the shiny was rubbed off the New toy” it went back to the same ole pathetic status quo.

The biggest issue recently is a huge influx of new users/members in which Diamond (mostly) or Infinity does Not launch or run properly…a generic answer is as useful as no answer at all.

Sometimes the best answer is the one no one suspects will work.
I am not a formally trained and certified IT specialist, or software programer; but If a far fetched, long shot, outside the box, 1 in a billion odds type suggestion or attempt worked once it stands to reason that within certain variables it is not an isolated occurrence.

What do I miss from the old Forum…? What very little Social tolerance and mediocre public relations it DID have!

It is a goddamned shame that se7ensins has absolutely nothing to offer worth paying for (premium is a joke)
but has way more people who have not decided to perch their own self important a*ses on a pedestal.
More people who 10-1 will help anyone asking for it, and then have the damned decency check up to see if the issue was resolved even after the thread has gone quiet a week.

When someone asks for help and it goes unread, or read but unanswered for days–it indicates a gross negligence in the F*cks given department.
When someone asks for help, and has already tried to self help using other suggestion and has tried every known textbook fix, rewording to them how to what they have already explicitly indicated they have in fact done is just a common one as well…as is Automatically launching an attack and essentially calling their PC trash.

The way I see it…the forum has outlived it’s usefulness, and the interface on which it is build has no bearing on making it better or worse. Only the people visiting can do that…and well that doesn’t seem to be a realistic thing to have happen.

It’s really how well the community is connected. I’m staff on a site with 1.5 million+ members and we have nothing to offer other than discussion and information.

You really have no idea how big of an annoyance it is updating game cheats, let alone dozens.

No, I have actually not even used a trainer. I just think that they should be carefull with how many trainers each developer will be responsible for.

Even worse it is with “Early access” games we support. Get updated once a day.
Would be a pain to have many of those to update. Since they are more freequently updated.

Anyway,

What do you miss about the old forums?

As @Troy Troy said above, its a long time since the change took place, so im not really sure what i did miss about it.
Cant say something from the top of my head at least.

What would you like to bring back?

Idrk at this point

What do you dislike about the current forum software?

Tbh, I dont see what is the big issue people got with Discourse. Ofc, it was something to getting used to. Because we wasnt used to it. But imho i would say i like Discourse much more than vB.
Ive not seen many forums using it and i think its a good change.
I must say i feel it much more effective and i liked that its much more streamlined

As far as Infinity goes, i love it up to now. But i know for a fact what @Travis said is true as well.
Trainers has been around for a long time, maybe not as slick as Infinity.
But its nothing new and ground breaking. Still tho, i feel it has much that other trainer does not.
Like the remote option and whatnot.

Even just design take it up to the next level from many other products out there. and the trainers are normally good quality.
But is that enough, i dont know. I think it will build a fanbase, but it will take time.

I’m in agreement with Travis it has to be said, what he said isn’t and shouldn’t be construed negatively, it’s just honest and true. Things will never be the same, that much is obvious, and like Travis mentioned the forum software isn’t really the issue here. I like Discourse, but like I said when the change was made it doesn’t feel very community friendly in the sense that it feels more like a forum for support. I also thought Xenforo was the better option to go with.

The important thing is that the site has a something to build on in the way of Infinity and obviously to a now much lesser extent (possibly redundant) Horizon. PC modding is a far more difficult niche to break into because of the diversity and multitude of methods and tools already out there, irrespective of how good Infinity is. Hard work and effort usually pays off in combination with a little luck, and I’m sure growth will come eventually.

The community side has been missing for a long time, and this is going back years; people moved on as they do and people of a similar standard never replaced them. Numerous reasons for this. From my standpoint staff also slacked with regards to trying to invigorate the community. I mean trying new things and involving the community. I’m talking about game nights, contests, things like having a community twitch or something, just ideas and new things which get the wheels turning.

I’ve always tried to give feedback to improve things over the years but at this juncture I really don’t know what to suggest, I can only say try going with the basic fundamentals and building the community back up while trying to re-introduce the fun side of things which hasn’t been prevalent for some time. I’m not sure if you are, but as we all know social media is basically essential in today’s world, utilise it to your advantage, get the word out better. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, or whatever, use it, isn’t that part of the reason why we have a community manager?

Best of luck.

Social media has never been a big outlet for us and we didn’t want Infinity to spread too fast until we saw the issues associated with it. With V2 social media(Twitch, Twitter, Facebook ect.) and partnering with channels will be a big part of growing the community. As you and others pointed out though there are known trainer creators which makes it hard to get into the game but we are steadily growing it is just the community lacks and this could be for various reason. We are looking into adding features people have requested.

This threads seems to have turned into people reminiscing about the old days. Although I appreciate all of your thoughts, I was really looking for feedback about specific forum features that were missed.

I kinda miss the signatures, but that’s about it

I apologize. You do understand the title is

What do you miss from the old forum?

Easy to be misconstrued. But with that being said I think this is still a good topic to discuss at some point and keep thinking about with the growth of Infinity and hopefully the site in the future.

It is way too late for me to go into another long explanation so I will sum this up quickly. Going off what @Greg said with involving the community, I think one of the largest issues we’ve had with this in the past is we try to create events that require involvement from the community. It seems like you are just forcing it on people. What I think really helps people build into a community is having something to do that they find mutually entertaining. Take Twitch streamers for example, they just have people watch them play video games but everyone enjoys it and likes being a part of it. Sure, giveaways and community events can help a Twitch streamer’s popularity but it isn’t ultimately why people are there so they won’t stay simply for that.

Anyways, sorry to derail this any further. As far as things that I miss from the site as far as features, I don’t think there is much.

I know you’re joking but still, that is such an exaggeration. Updates are an issue for game titles made by game devs that should quit game-making and do something else with their life because they suck at game development. Or maybe they should fire their whole QA department if they even have one. Case in point the total war games by CreativeAssembly.

I agree the launch of infinity was kind of hectic but the only issues with infinity are either user errors or anti-virus generated. The solutions i have provided helps 100% of the users for the issues i am aware of. I don’t know about horizon, i get the impression from everyone that it is buggy but if it was so popular and loved then it must have done something right.

With infinity v2 release, even more bugs are going to be removed/new features added and it should be made even more easy to use so the user generated errors are low to almost non-existent. I can’t say that for antivirus generated errors, they have been a part of trainer scene for more than a decade now so we will have to deal with them for eternity unless people get smart and stop using antivirus software which i don’t see happening as humanity is getting dumber by decade.

Not trying to be controversial here, but I really don’t think Xenoforo is the way too go.

I really dislike it and feel it’s too common. I rather stick with something that’s different and stands out from rest (for the right reasons of course).
