So i recently tried plugging in my USB 2.0 Seagate 500 GB HDD to my Xbox one so i can change my background and play some music off of it, but my Xbox doesn’t show it in the Media Player app, I Used to use it for my Xbox 360 all the time so i have it formatted for my 360 if that makes any difference.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think the Xbox One supports media playback. I think the most you can do with an external HardDrive at the moment is extend the storage capacity for your games & apps.
You may need to format it on the X1. But I don’t know as I don’t have an X1. I would think if it’s Fat32 the files should show up.
This is an older video but it shows that it’s possible:
doesn’t it have to be usb 3.0? or is that just for storage?
That’s just for storage. what i mean is i can’t play anything off of my external hard drive but maybe because it’s formatted for xbox 360?
For playing media files, it will need to be formatted to a standard external hard drive. You will not be able to play any files on a hard drive that has been formatted to an Xbox 360 Hard Drive.
Oh! I Was afraid my Xbox one’s usb ports are fried lol.
