I have used WeMod for years. Never had any problems. Then all of a sudden out of the blue, when I open WeMod up, I get this red writing telling me that there is an error with WeMod and it needs to be reinstalled.
I tried to reinstall it but it just says that the installation failed and it gives me a button to download it manually. I click that and it downloads a new WeMod file so I run that and get an Installation failed message.
“WeMod-9.20.0.exe
Installation has failed
There was an error while installing the application. Check the setup log for more
information and contact the author.”
I then click on “Open Setup Log” and absolutely nothing happens.
I have gone through and made sure that everything about Wemod is whitelisted. I am using Norton antivirus and I am running Windows 10 64 bit, and have never had an issue with Wemod before.
Please help me. I do not understand why even the so-called manual install won’t work.
I am having exactly the same problem, the only difference is I am running AVG.
Never had an issue before yesterday. I deleted all files manually (uninstall wasn’t allowing it to delete) including the HKEY reg. Downloaded the new file and managed to get it working. restarted my PC this morning to see exactly the same error.
I ran command line sfc /scannow and and it found some corrupt files and fixed them. Tried another reinstall as admin and now it won’t install. I checked the event log and found this

Hello all,
hope my feedback helps identifying the issue & fixing/make a workaround to make WeMod work again. I think WeMod stoped working properly after recent Windows update.
I have windows 10 Pro, OS build 19045.5247 now.
WeMod stoped working, it simply cannot launch , an option asking to re-install it. I have the same issue, it’s not an isolated case, i see other folks have same issues.
I cannot unninstall gracefully from Add/Remove programs, i need to go to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\WeMod and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\WeMod, and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SquirrelTemp to delete the folders. After that i need to restart windows, install the WeMod-9.20.0 version, and at the begining it works fine. After some time it stops working sudently.
If i delete again, wait for some time , and try to install WeMod-9.20.0, it fails to install, some error with "There was an error while installing the application. Check the setup log for more information and contact the author. "
I even installed latest .NET SDK or runtime distributables version 9.0.101/4.8.1, nothing is changed.
In the windows application events i have an application error saying:
“Faulting application name: Update.exe_Squirrel, version: 2.0.1.53, time stamp: 0x6632d915
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.19041.5198, time stamp: 0xd1eefc71

Not sure why this is happening, i’m not a .NET developer, but for sure it’s related to Squirrel , i don’t have any more the text logs from %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SquirrelTemp but there were some pretty nasty .NET exceptions related to Access or other Failures.
I’ve tested with or without my antivirus/firewall, same outcomes.
I’m glad to know it’s not just me having this same issue. I really hope that Wemod is looking into a fix for this.
One idea, how about giving us a download of the files we need to install manually instead of an .exe? I know that won’t fix the whole problem, but eliminating that .exe would possibly help.
I’m not sure if this was discussed or not, wouldn’t be possible to have WeMod in portable edition ? this way WeMod can work on many platforms without depending of Windows/.NET updates that can brake the application.
i am not sure. But check your antivirus . Mine at it set up as always run in sandbox mode. No idea why or how but i unchecked it and it worked fine. Never had problem in years with Wemod till an update on my Antivirus. Well i just checked wemod loaded but when try to use it it just says loading mod and never says playing … Sorry
Same problem when running an update of WeMod, thought it was me but i think its the latest update. It wouldnt even uninstall. And now it wont reinstall. This is not antivirus software related. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Same here. Tiday I’ve renew PRO and can’t intall WeMod. I;ve turned off antivirus, added mnual downloaded file to an exception list, and even run instalator as administrator.
For me, the launch and (re)install problems started after the last Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (December 10, 2024—KB5048652).
I’ve recently purchased two programs which installed in the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\ directories. Both of them failed to launch with the same eventlog error as with WeMod, i.e. with the exception code 0xc06d007e in KERNELBASE.dll.
So my gaze is upon Microsoft with its latest update. I have a hunch it renders programs installed under %USERPROFILE%\AppData\ ‘incompatible’.
FWIW:
I did manage to (re)install WeMod by running the WeMod-Setup.exe in Windows 8 compatibility mode. WeMod will launch after install, but it’s a one-off. Once you close WeMod (taskbar), it will not launch again (re-install needed).

I got it working again!
The problem I had was because of a Norton 360 update, all the whitelisted apps had been removed from the ‘exclude from scans’ list and WeMod wouldn’t launch. I got the installation working again (which ultimately had not been necessary) with the following steps:
Removed %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\WeMod
Removed %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SquirrelTemp
Removed %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\WeMod
Removed all registry keys pointing to ‘WeMod’ (BACK UP THE REGISTRY FIRST!!!)
Restart PC
Run WeMod-Setup.exe
Close WeMod (also in system tray)
Exclude %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\WeMod and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\WeMod from Antivirus scans
Launch WeMod
Profit
So I think removing the registry keys resolved the issue of the installation errors(?).
I already tried this, and it didnt work. So i just cancelled the subscription because i am not going to pay for something that does not work. Ill be happy to do that again once this gets fixed by WeMod. We shouldnt have to jump trough hoops and what not to get it to install.
It all started with the latest update.
I don’t know if this will work for everyone but it worked for me I was having trouble with opening WeMod and so I uninstalled it and then reinstalled with no success all error messages included like all the descriptions here so I tried download the one individual mod trainer and it worked so Id suggest trying it that way.
Finally had time to sit down and manually go through all my files and I ended up finding a Text document file called something like WeMod(1).exe in some random file. This never showed up on searches and isnt in any of the files pple have been talking about but once i deleted it and did a pc restart Wemod downloaded instantly.
worked for a few days now its not. “An error has occurred while loading WeMod. May need to reinstall…” tried to find any files where they shouldn’t have been like last time but there’s nothing. update Just wanted to add the app worked until the next time i turned off my pc.
Hi there! If you haven’t already, please try adding exclusions for these two folders in your antivirus: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\WeMod and C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\WeMod
Hi! Can you please try to disable your AV for now? then please try to find and remove any WeMod-related files from your PC. Also, delete WeMod from the AppData directory and Squirrel from the temp folder. Then, restart your computer and attempt to reinstall.
