"Wemod failed loading the cheats into your game" / "We’re having trouble downloading the cheats"

Hello and welcome to the WeMod community. Good to have you here. :wave: :slight_smile:

This post should help anyone who are getting either one of these three error messages:

  • “WeMod failed loading the cheats into your game.”
  • “The cheats are missing from your computer. Please make sure WeMod is whitelisted by your anti-virus software before continuing.”
  • “We’re having trouble downloading the cheats. Please try again later.”

Custom Path
First of all, set a custom path to the game’s executable on your PC by clicking the down arrow next to the Play button in the WeMod desktop app. Note that any shortcuts on your desktop are likely a stand-alone launcher, not the executable.

To ensure you are using the correct .exe with WeMod:

  1. Launch the game. Wait until you are on the main menu.
  2. Launch Task Manager. Locate the game process there.
  3. Right-click the game process, click Open File Location (you may sometimes need to click “Expand” first).
  4. The highlighted file in the window that just popped up is the .exe.

Anti-Virus, Part One
If the problem persists, an antivirus program is likely preventing the cheats from downloading. Follow these steps:

  1. Remove WeMod from your computer if you haven’t already, using the Add Or Remove Programs tool, which comes with all Windows PCs (use the search feature in the Start menu to find it).
  1. Navigate to these two places and, if these folders still exist on your PC, delete them:
  • C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\WeMod
  • C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Roaming\WeMod

  1. Turn off your antivirus software. Even if it’s the default Windows Defender.

  2. Download the installer from https://www.wemod.com/download and install the software.

  3. Add WeMod as an exception in your antivirus before you launch it. (Including the two files mentioned above). Log back in by clicking the cog wheel in the top-right of WeMod to go to the account settings.

Anti-Virus, Part Two

If the issue continues after correctly doing the above antivirus steps:

  1. Open your antivirus program, even if it’s just the default Windows Defender.

  2. Go to the quarantine menu (alternatively known as the Virus Chest in some programs).

  3. Look for any WeMod files in there that were quarantined despite it being added as an exception. Whitelist and de-quarantine them from here.

If you have either of these, there are additional steps

  • Comcast / Xfinity - Click for instructions.

  • BitDefender - Click for instructions .

  • Windows 7 - You need may to install .NET Framework 4.5.0 or above (preferably above). This is required to install WeMod and it does not come with Windows 7, so it will need to be manually downloaded. Click here to download version 4.5.0 (minimum required) - | or | - Click here to download version 4.7.2 (recommended)

  • A school/college/university internet connection - use a VPN, there is an extra antivirus program on the school network that you have no control over. Try Opera Browser, which has a VPN built into it. Alternatively, Windscribe is free up to 10gb.

  • If you are from a country which controls and censors external internet connections, such as China, you may also need to use a VPN.

Other things to note

  • Make sure you are using the correct trainer for the store that you got the game from. For example, if the trainer was designed for the Steam version of the game, there is absolutely zero guarantee that it will work flawlessly on the same game from the GOG store. (Why? - Click).

  • If the game has recently had an update (you can check this on Google), then the trainer may be in need of an update. In this case, see here: How do I request an update for games? - WeMod Support.

  • Sometimes it may help to launch the game first via the launcher. Wait on the main menu for 5 minutes. Than alt+tab to WeMod to press Play.
    An example of when this is necessary is when your machine is slow to load the memory addresses in the PC’s RAM that the trainer needs to inject into, hence causing the injection to time out.

  • If there is more than one version of the trainer, make sure you are using the most up-to-date one. Click the History button, which is underneath the Play button in the trainer, and select the most recent version from the list.

  • If your copy of the game is cracked or pirated, there is a high chance the trainer will not work 100%. Sometimes it may work a bit, sometimes it won’t work at all. There is no fix for this other than you buying the game legitimately.
